Countdown to Hamilton Fun Run Begins
The Hamilton Vitality Fun Run is just a couple of weeks away and organisers are encouraging runners and walkers of all fitness levels to come along and enjoy a fun family day out.
The Fun Run on Sunday November 8 includes events for both recreational and professional runners and walkers, ranging from a 4.2km run / walk to a full 42km marathon.
Committee member, Megan Campbell says the event is not just for runners, it is about encouraging as many people as possible to get outside, enjoy the day and be healthy and active.
“Much of the day is about bringing Hamilton to life, seeing all the families there, sometimes even three generations together taking part.
You don’t have to be a runner, there is the glorious 4.2km walk around the lake or the 10km walk along the Grangeburn to enjoy,” she said.
For the more serious campaigners there are the half and full marathon events and organiser and Director of Vitality Health and Fitness, Mardi Gill, says the response to last year’s marathon was excellent and she is looking forward to challenging a few more people this year.
“Hamilton is my home and I really feel that being involved in an event like this is a fantastic way to give back to the community I live in.
I was so proud last year to have been involved in organising Hamilton’s first marathon.
Many of our runners came from interstate, including Western Australia and New South Wales, but it was fantastic to see the local runners like Sally Beggs and Patrick Kenny participating and taking out line honours,” Ms Gill said.
Many local businesses are supporting the event this year and several are also entering teams.
Mark Diedrichs, from Australian Bluegum Plantations (ABP) says he is encouraging his staff to get fit and participate in one form or another.
“Some of us are volunteering at the event and others will run or walk, it’s a great opportunity for people to get out and about and be active and we are proud to be a major sponsor this year.
The event also raises funds for a great cause, with this year’s proceeds going directly to the development of cancer treatment facilities at the Hamilton Base Hospital,” Mr Diedrichs said.
Australian Bluegum Plantations is our new 10km sponsor for the 2015 Fun Run.
